We received a little more insight into how much theme parks were affected when we reported on Disney’s Q4 earnings call in November 2020. We learned more about park capacity and Disney+ subscriber numbers, but we also learned that the company had a $2.4 billion loss last year. Now, we know more about how 2020 affected Universal’s financials thanks to the Comcast Q4 earnings report.

Thanks to theme park journalist Ashley Carter on Twitter (@AshleyLCarter1), we got the details of Comcast’s earnings report, including some very important information about the Universal theme parks. The revenue for NBCUniversal’s parks division went down 62.9% from the same quarter last year, which is a sizable jump.

The parks division brought in $579 million, which is less than half of what was made in the same period last year, $1.56 billion. Comcast attributes this decrease to the theme parks operating at a significantly lower capacity due to health and safety regulations.

The Comcast executives did say that the theme parks reached a breakeven point when excluding the reopening costs for Universal Beijing. This is despite the fact that Universal Studios Hollywood is still closed.
