Give Kids the World Village is a nonprofit resort that provides free, week-long trips to ill children and their families, granting thousands of wishes. Due to the global health crisis, the Village had to close for ten months. As of today, it’s officially open to welcome guests once again.

Give Kids the World Village closed its doors in March, postponing the wishes of approximately 6,000 children, according to Click Orlando. While the Village was closed, it held a Night of a Million Lights charity event, a walk-through spectacle featuring PLENTY of Christmas lights to spread the holiday spirit.

During the closures, 85% of staff were laid off, according to Pamela Landwirth, the President and CEO of Give Kids the World Village. Now, Landwirth shares that staff has returned and is excited to begin welcoming families again. Over the next 6-8 weeks, the Village is expecting 90 families to visit.

Landwirth shared that they’re implementing a slow reopening with lots of safety measures in place. These protocols include temperature screenings, hand sanitizer stations, and mask requirements.
