Yesterday’s Investor Day brought a ton of exciting announcements regarding upcoming television series and movies in the world of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and more!

One of the biggest announcements from Pixar was the news that there would be an all-new film called Lightyear, all surrounding our favorite Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear!
There was probably some confusion, however, when it was unveiled that the voice actor playing Buzz would NOT be Tim Allen, who is arguably just as iconic as Tom Hanks playing Woody in the Toy Story series. This time around, Buzz Lightyear will be played by Captain American himself, Chris Evans!

But wait! Why the change? Did Disney really just say that they are replacing Tim Allen with Chris Evans? Let’s take a closer look.

According to Disney, this will not be a Toy Story film. Rather, it’s an original story about the actual human named Buzz Lightyear, of which the toy version was based off of. So, Chris Evans is NOT playing Buzz Lightyear the toy, he will be playing Buzz Lightyear the man. Does that make more sense?

We know that it’s hard to imagine anyone else saying “To infinity and beyond!” but Tim Allen! Just remember that Chris Evans is NOT playing the Buzz Lightyear we’ve known and loved since 1995. Chris Evans even chimed in yesterday on Twitter, offering some clarity on who he will actually be portraying in the film.
And just to be clear, this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy. This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on
