The tale of Black Beauty is so timeless that almost every teenage girl over the past five decades has seen at least one film adaptation of the story.
Disney+ is bringing a new adaptation of Black Beauty to life, which will premiere on the streaming service on November 27th. And now we have a first look at the movie.
Disney has released some new photos from the Disney+ film to give us an idea of what to expect.
In the Disney+ retelling of Black Beauty, actress Kate Winslet lends her voice to Beauty, a horse that develops an unbreakable friendship with a teenage girl. The story is told from the perspective of the horse.
The film — and previous adaptations of the story — takes inspiration from the 1877 novel Black Beauty: His Grooms and Companions, the Autobiography of a Horse by Anna Sewell. However, the Disney+ adaptation has changed the gender of Black Beauty from male to female and placed the story in a modern timeline.
Director Ashley Avis also spoke about why she wanted to be a part of this new version of the story. “Like so many people, it really impacted me. I just wanted to be part of the world of horses. I grew up on this book, and it very much influenced my entire life and the way everything has panned out with my love of horses.”
