The recent passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman left Marvel fans and the movie industry in shock. Stars and fans have spent the past week paying tribute to the star.

Boseman’s passing also raises an important question about the future of Black Panther and the character’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Black Panther 2 set to release in 2022, how will the character’s story continue?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is still processing its grief over Boseman’s death and not really worrying about the future of Black Panther at the moment. However, the company will eventually have to weigh its options on how best to continue.
According to the article, the easiest choice Disney could make would be recasting the role. This would probably also be the most controversial choice, though, as Boseman’s portrayal of T’Challa was a particularly notable one. There would also be a probable uproar with fans should this be how Disney moves forward.

Another possible discussion for Disney would be having someone else step into the role of Black Panther. The most obvious solution is to have Shuri (Letitia Wright) become the superhero, as she is next in line for the throne of Wakanda. This would also align with what has happened in the Black Panther comics.
While Disney certainly won’t make any decision light-heartedly, for now, we can still focus on and remember the impact that Boseman made in the role. He made Black Panther his own and his loss feels like an immense one.
What do you think? How should Disney handle the future Black Panther? Let us know in the comments.

I would love to see them make Shuri as the new Black Panther. She has the brains and the brawn for the part. She also has tech that gives Iron Man a run for his money. This is the way.
CGI … JK🤣 (it was weird enough when they did it for Carrie Fisher😬)
But seriously Suri would be the natural choice
I don’t think anyone would like to see the role recast. It would not be without precedent as the roles of Hulk and War Machine were recast after each heroes first outing in the MCU, but neither actor that played those roles had the same screen presence of Boseman, and he has actually played the role in multiple films already.
I like keeping the role faithful to the comics. If Shuri has spent time as the Black Panther in the comics, then I would be okay with her in the MCU as long as Wright is capable of the role.
You have neglected to mention a third option, and that would be to write out the character altogether. This would depend on how important Black Panther and Wakanda is to phases 4 through 6 in the MCU.
I think it is too early to think about what to do, but I do think it is a mistake to replace Chadwick Boseman. They should probably follow the story line as his character dies, and have the Black Panther progress to Shuri.
It makes the most sense and gives Marvel and Disney another strong female superhero as well.
Win/Win
I think that’s a great idea as well. I can’t imagine the storyline they’ll come up with to explain his death but it’s sure to be a true tearjerker.
