The film industry has made quite a few headlines this week, with major franchises such as Star Wars and Avatar delaying all upcoming release dates by one year, and the release of the live action remake of Mulan being delayed until further notice.

When it comes to the movie theaters themselves, we have already seen chains like AMC announce their reopening plans, only to pull back. Now, another major cinema chain has announced their reopening date.

Regal Cinemas has announced via Twitter that they will begin to reopen their theaters starting on Friday, August 21st.

When the theaters reopen, new health and safety procedures will be in place based on CDC guidelines. After each movie, employees will sanitize the entire theater with a fast-drying electrostatic ‘fogger’ equipment. Auditorium capacity will also be reduced to 50%.

As far as their mask policy goes, Regal Cinema’s website states that, “Guests will be required to wear face masks in the lobby, hallways and restrooms and can remove them inside the auditorium while eating and drinking.” You can read their full health and safety policy on Regal’s website.
