Disney World is a big place (around 25,000 acres), so it should come as no surprise that the cost to maintain the parks is large.

While Disney World has the most popular theme parks in the world, the Walt Disney Company is currently in legal talks over its recent value appraisals.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Disney World is suing Property Appraiser Rick Singh over its property taxes. While Disney has been filing law suits at the Orange Circuit Court since 2016, the current lawsuit is over the 2019 appraisals that Disney claims are too high.

While Singh spokeswoman Beth Watson has stated that the Walt Disney World Resort “had been undervalued for decades by previous property appraisers,” Disney says the amount is excessive according to its property values.

Disney representative Jacquee Wahler responded that, “As we have shared before and as a matter of public record, we have challenged the property appraiser’s assessments and we will continue to dispute the errors by the property appraiser as any property owner in Orange County would do.”

According to Disney, Singh listed the value for the Magic Kingdom at $504 million, EPCOT at $539 million, Hollywood Studios at $394 million, and Animal Kingdom at $435 million. The property tax on EPCOT was around $7.2 million if it was paid by November 30th, 2019. However, Disney stated that they had paid 2019 taxes already and that Singh’s numbers were unreasonable.

While Disney has stated that Singh did not “[follow] professionally accepted appraisal practices” and that “the assessments do not represent the just value of the Subject Property as of the lien date because they exceed the market value,” Singh’s representatives state that the Orange County Property Appraiser’s Office had used professionally accepted appraisal practices with impeccable accuracy.”

However, the Four Seasons Resort Orlando also sued Singh and Orange County Tax Collector Scott Randolph over the hotel’s $271 million assessment value. In the past, Disney won a civil trial in July of 2018 after they contested that the Yacht and Beach Club’s 2015 should be cut to $189 million.
