Currently in phase one of their re-opening plan, Florida has been re-opening businesses such as retail stores and restaurants.

When it comes to theme parks, while there is currently no set re-opening dates for the major theme parks such as Disney World and Universal Orlando, there is a possibility that some smaller theme parks in Orlando may be welcoming guests again in the near future.
According to Click Orlando, Fun Spot and Gatorland are set to re-open once Florida moves into Phase Two of its re-opening plan.

While Gatorland Orlando and Fun Spot America closed two months ago as health and safety precautions, employees have been given the green light to get things ready for reopening. According to representative Mike Hileman for Gatorland, the “CEO put a deadline on all of our departments to be ready to go by May 9th. We added over 50 [hand-washing] stations. There’s a brand new 32-page protocol document dealing how we interact with our guests.”

Many of these Florida theme park submitted letters to Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings in order to be added to the list of businesses allowed to open during Phase Two. The letters detailed their safety guidelines, like the 6-feet apart place holders and restriction signs around Gatorland Orlando.

Theme parks will also be implementing temperature checks for guests and employees. The Vice President of Marketing from Fun Spot America John Chidester stated that there will even be specific “Clean Teams to strictly focus on wiping down all railing, surfaces and high touch areas regularly; hand sanitizer stations located throughout the park will remind guests to do their part, outdoor seating reconfigured to be at a minimum of 6 feet apart, [and] our queue lines will be 9 feet apart from each other.”

Different attractions like the roller coasters, go-karts, and family, thrill, and kiddie rides will use alternating seating to promote distancing as well. Indoor attractions, like the arcade and diners, will be closed during the park’s initial reopening. Fun Spot will also be operating at a lower capacity at first.
