Is Electric Umbrella Closing Next Week in Disney’s Epcot?

We’ve known for awhile now that the Electric Umbrella at  Epcot‘s Future World would be closing as part of Epcot’s ongoing transformation.

But, according to the restaurant’s website calendar, that closing may be soon!

The Electric Umbrella’s calendar on Disney’s official website currently lists “No Times Available” starting on February 17th. While it’s not confirmation that the restaurant will be closing, the lack of times definitely points to a good possibility that the restaurant will be closing that day.

Much of the Electric Umbrella’s menu has been split between two temporary dining locations. Lovers of burgers and fries can visit the Taste Track booth, while flatbread fans can stop by the Epcot Experience for a quick bite at the new Eats at the Epcot Experience. While it is possible that Disney will keep the Umbrella open for a bit longer, the recent completion of these temporary dining locations means that this iconic quick service spot likely isn’t long for this world.

Taste Track has been expanded into a quick service location, but seating is still sparse.

Nearly everything in central Future World has been shut down or relocated over recent months in anticipation of a total transformation. When the multi-year refurbishment project is complete, Future World will be split into three new lands: World Nature (encompassing The Land and The Seas with Nemo and Friends), World Discovery (including Test Track, Mission: SPACE, and the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind coaster), and World Celebration (including Spaceship Earth, The Imagination Pavilion, and the current Future World plaza).

Electric Umbrella’s impending closure is due to its location in the heart of World Celebration, which is the centerpiece of the new transformation. The area’s currently sterile design will be replaced with a lush, garden-like area known as Dreamer’s Point, with a central pavilion designed for festivals and fireworks viewing. While the building Electric Umbrella currently resides in is set to remain (unlike its counterpart across the plaza), it’s currently unknown if Electric Umbrella will reopen in something resembling its current form, or if a new quick service location will occupy that space.

  1. Electric Umbrella is the absolute worse restaurant in Epcot. I got sick after eating a flatbread pizza there a couple of years ago. Plus, it was so dirty last time I walked in that I left without eating anything. Does anyone really care if it closes?

  2. Not one of my spots to dine with so many others in Epcot but it’s an oldie and I’ll miss it with all the new changes.
