Okay, picture this: They Live, but instead of creepy skull faced aliens, the world is secretly controlled by gamers doing Fortnite dances. That’s… roughly the plot of Free Guy, the upcoming film by Disney-owned 20th Century Fox.

Directed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things) and starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Free Guy tells the story of an ordinary bank teller who finds out his world is a bit more digital than he previously imagined… which definitely explains all the explosions. This film almost feels like a lighthearted take on The Matrix, but with less Platonic philosophy and more Grand Theft Auto jokes. Ryan Reynolds’ performance as the cheerful and naive Guy is definitely endearing, so we’ll see how this movie pans out when it opens on July 3rd, 2020.
