Review of Polynesian Village Resort (Deluxe Resort)

This was our third stay at the Polynesian. We love it here. The rooms are large and the convenience to the parks is fantastic. We requested a room in Rarotonga and got our request. I wish though, I had requested a room in a different building. Our third floor room had a nice balcony that over the looked the construction at the East Pool - not great to look at, but it was my fault for requesting that. Once the construction is done, that view will be a nice one. Despite being up at the front of the resort, we could still see Wishes pretty well from our balcony and that was nice.

All the castmembers we encountered were friendly and helpful. Our room was cleaned and restocked everyday with no problems.

The monorail opened later in the morning than it had in the past, but we were provided with a schedule and were given plenty of information about how to get where we needed to go without the monorail, so it really wasn't a problem.

We really love this resort and already booked a bounce back for next year. I can't wait to see how everything looks when the East Pool construction is finished.

convenience to parks

Review of Yak and Yeti Restaurant

This place is great if you’re looking for something other than standard theme park food. We had an ADR, but they were accepting walk ins, the place was bustling but never crowded and has lots of exotic artifacts sitting around. Our server was great and ensured we had everything we needed. The food was well prepared with Asian flavors, even the veggies tasted great. The portions are huge, however they do charge for refills on the specialty lemonades. We will definitely make a point to return to Yak and Yeti on future trips.

Pros:

Service, food

Cons:

price

My husband and I made a last minute decision to come to Disney for the night. We booked The Little Mermaid room. It was the only budget hotel available. When we got here we were given a complimentary upgrade to a suite in the Lion King. Virgina checked us in, gave us the upgrade, arranged fast passes for us, even though the website said none were available, and couldn't have been nicer. After spending the day in the parks we came back here for dinner because we were tired. The make your own pasta station was amazing. You select a pasta (bow ties for me), select a sauce (pesto for me) and select toppings-kalamata olives, spinach, roasted peppers, broccoli, spinach, and mushrooms for me), they put all your veggies in fry pan with olive oil, cook them up, put in your hot pasta, add cheese and garlic bread. Delish! Our suite had a bedroom, two bathrooms, a little living area, eating area, murphy bed and pull out bed/sofa. I have stayed at many properties including the Yacht club and Wilderness, but this room was the best so far. So roomy!

Pros:

food court, suites, pool

Cons:

none

Review of Minnie's Seasonal Dining at Hollywood and Vine

We dined here on the opening night and it was fantastic. We only waited about 5 minutes after checking in and were taken to a photo opp with Santa Goofy. There was a Photopass Photographer taking these pictures. We were told as we were being taken to our table that the characters would not be signing autographs and were given a little postcard with their signatures.

Once we were seated, Donald and Minnie came by right away. Their new Holiday Costumes are gorgeous. After our pictures with them, we were able to hit the buffet and it did not disappoint. There are lots of choices. There were at least 7 or so meat choices and lots of sides. The "kids" area of the buffet also had a good variety of foods. My favorites were the pretzel bread (the same rolls they have at Biergarten), the flank steak and the seafood mac and cheese.

There is a nice desert buffet also. I was a little disappointed that several of the deserts had peppermint on them and I don't like mint, so I only tried a couple of the deserts.

The characters rotated quickly, but didn't rush you at all. In the time it took us to eat, the characters came around twice.

This dinner was a great way to start the holiday season.

Review of Polynesian Deluxe Studios (Disney Vacation Club)

I waited my entire adult life to stay at the Poly, but that was the old Poly, the one with the magnificent waterfall and foliage in the lobby. Don't get me wrong, it is a pretty resort. The transportation options are great. A short walk to the TTC and you can jump on the Epcot monorail. There's a relaxing water taxi to get you to the MK. Kona Cafe is a great hidden secret, but you do need to get reservations. Drinks on the pineapple lanai were perfect (Trader Sam's was over capacity).

Pool area was okay. We actually had a mother and father leave their three kids who looked to be around 5 to 7 years old by themselves and then didn't come back for them for well over an hour. Hot tub was usually either closed or full with children.

Unfortunately, part of what used to be a great beach view is now obstructed by the new 2-bedroom DVC villas.

We stayed in Pago Pago. Everything was new but kind of felt "cheap." Also, we were not only able to hear several neighbors toilets flushing, we could hear our next door neighbor's muffled conversations, as well as anytime anyone walked across the floor upstairs (or ran). If someone was on the balcony either upstairs or to the side, it sounded as if they were actually in our room. And that's why it only gets an 8, because I associate the Polynesian with relaxation and peacefulness and it was definitely not either of those.

Pros:

Transportation options

Cons:

Thin walls/ceilings/noisy

Review of Toy Story Pizza Planet CLOSED February 1, 2016 for Long Rehab

My husband is a huge Toy Story fan, so he really wanted to try Pizza Planet this year. We got their before noon and so it wasn't too busy when we arrived. The pizza was okay. A little too much bread and not enough cheese. The salads that came with it were very good. We had cupcakes for desert and those were really good also. I'm glad we tried it, but I'm not sure it will be on our "must do" list.

Review of Coral Reef - Lunch/Dinner

Our dinner at Coral Reef was one of the highlights of our trip. We were seated right away and were given a table right by the glass even though we hadn't made any specific requests. It was so neat to sit right there by the glass and watch the fish while we were eating. We had a fantastic server. She was very friendly and helpful when I asked about some items on the menu.

For our dinner we had the seafood pasta and the strip steak. Both were excellent. For desert we had the cheesecake and the mousse. They were gorgeous in presentation, but didn't taste as good as they looked.

This restaurant gets a lot of bad reviews, but our experience was fantastic.

We stopped in here and got burgers during our last trip. The large, air conditioned dining room is very nice. The food was good and fresh. We both had the rocky road brownie for desert that we LOVED the last time we ate here and they weren't very good this time; that was disappointing.

There are lots of great choices in Epcot, but if you want just a simple burger and fries, this place is a good choice.

We had lunch here the day we arrived. We were very hungry after a long morning of traveling. We hit the restaurant at 12:30, which was prime lunchtime. The line was long, but there was a CM directing patrons to the cashiers, so it moved efficiently. My husband and I both had burgers and fries. They were very good - hot and fresh. We were able to find a table fairly quickly despite it being so crowded. The huge plus of Electric Umbrella is that you can get drink refills.

We were seated very promptly for our ADR, which was very nice.

Our server wasn't the most friendly guy, but he was efficient. I ordered the fish/steak combo and was disappointed that they wouldn't let me sub one of the "assigned" sides with fries. This was the only sit down restaurant that we ate at that wouldn't let me choose a different side than the one already assigned to the dish. My husband had the fish and chips. We both really liked our food. Our deserts were just okay. I had the sticky toffee pudding. The sauce over it was divine, but the cake was super dried out.

We have eaten here several times and will continue to come back despite this not being a particularly memorable visit.
