Review of Katsura Grill - Japan

My family of 4 had lunch here on June 11th. We were looking for a counter service that we hadn't yet tried, and decided to try Katsura Grill. I'm so glad we did. My daughters each had an order of the Teriyaki Beef. I had the Tokyo Sushi Combo, and my husband had the Shogun Combo. Everything was served hot (except the sushi of course) and tasted quite yummy. The Green Tea Cheesecake was delicious too. I highly recommend dining here. If it would have been cooler out, we would have opted to eat outside. The area is a nice, quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the park. The inside could use an expansion to hold more tables.

Pros:

Atmosphere and Outdoor Seating Area

Cons:

Not Enough Indoor Seating

Stopped in on June 8th for a LeFou's Brew while waiting to see Gaston. This has become a staple when visiting the Magic Kingdom. It's such a light, refreshing drink to enjoy on a hot, summer, Florida day.

LeFou's Brew

Not Enough Seating

Review of Chef Mickey's Breakfast

As much as this is my least favorite character meal (I've done almost all of them), it's become a staple during our WDW vacations. I have seriously dined here too many times to count. We had breakfast here on our last day of Disney before heading out to St. Pete.

We were seated shortly after arriving and receiving our pager. The characters came around pretty fast, and posed for quite a few pictures, even tho it was me, my husband and our 15 year old, twin daughters. They gave us a lot of time.

Our server wasn't very attentive. She never offered to refill our drinks or ask if there was anything else we needed. When I asked her if I could have some hot tea to go, she brought me a cup, but no more hot water.

The food was actually very good this time. The empty platters were constantly being refilled, and the cold dishes like fruit and yogurt were very fresh. My favorite thing to eat was the cheesy potato casserole. It was so yummy.

I still think this restaurant could use a little help in the cleanliness department. The floor is always littered with food, and the tables and seating feel sticky every time I dine here.

If you haven't dined here, I'd give it a try. If you have, there are other character meals worth trying, like 1900 Park Fare and O'Hana.

Food and Characters

While shopping in DTD on June 10th, my 15 year old daughters and I decided we needed a Starbucks pick me up. Ordering was fast and efficient, and our coffees (2, iced, white chocolate mochas and a vanilla bean frap) were ready in a few minutes, made to perfection. This is a great location for a Starbucks!!! We will definitely visit again.

Location, Service and Coffee

Review of Disney Dining Plan

My family of 4 enjoyed the dining plan for our 5 night stay at POFQ. We dined at BOG (lunch), Yak and Yeti, Chefs de France, The Plaza, Katsura Grill, Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory and Narcoossees. Out of pocket, we paid for a few appetizers, alcoholic beverages, and tips. We didn't have room to fit in 4 counter service meals, so we were able to trade them for 12 snack credits instead. This worked out wonderfully, because we wanted to bring a bit of Disney back home with us. So we were able to pick up gummy candies, rice krispy treats, cookies and pretzels.

Narcoossees, although 2 credits per person was well worth it, because 2 of us had lobster.

We either do the regular dining plan or the deluxe every trip. We saved our receipts, and found this was a definite money saver, as always.

Money Saver

Review of Animal Kingdom Lodge KIDANI Village (Disney Vacation Club)

We stayed in a deluxe studio previously for a family of four. We tried a one-bedroom suite for the first time this year. The full kitchen was well worth it and we used it quite a bit. We ate breakfast in the room every day and often lunch. We found a grocery store several minutes from the resort. We also took advantage of the spa tub in the master bathroom after exhausting days at the parks. The washer/dryer allowed us to pack a few days worth of clothes and wash them a couple times during our stay to make packing lighter.
We love the underground parking. We left a couple of times and were always able to find a parking spot close to the elevator.
Buses were mostly on time. My DD and I waited 30 min one evening to go to Downtown Disney.

Pros:

Atmosphere of the resort

My family reserved a carriage ride out of POR on June 6th at 9pm. This was our third time scheduling this activity. It is a fun, relaxing, inexpensive way to end a day in WDW. The ride is only 30 minutes long, but our carriage took us along the river from POR to POFQ and back. It's very scenic. We all enjoyed it, and I wouldn't hesitate to reserve it again during our next trip.

Pros:

Relaxing, Scenic and Inexpensive

We had great service and enjoyed the family-style serving of the food. Our server made sure our drinks were always refilled along with the food. We booked a few weeks prior so we didn't have a choice of the seating section to the very back and right of the stage. The columns often blocked our view of the show. Our favorite part was the fire twirler of course. He was amazing! It was nice to see the show once, but I don't know that I'd do it again.

Pros:

Good entertainment, plenty of food

We visited June 6. We did the fantasmic package and were on the dining plan. We(3) all had the calamari as the app. The lemon sauce is the best of the sauces. It was not overcooked and chewy at all. For dinner we got two steaks with mac and cheese and 1 chicken parm. Everyone enjoyed it. We've had it before and new we wanted it again. For dessert they brought out a sampler which was different than last time and I liked it better. It was a small tiramisu, a cheesecake and brownie all bite size. We got the tickets for fantasmic but opted not to go that not since we had earlier in the week and wanted to watch fireworks instead since it was a star wars weekend. You should definitely try it out if you haven't before.

Pros:

food was great, fantasmic package

Cons:

can be a wait
