Review of Kona Cafe Breakfast

I had read such good things about Kona, so I booked a breakfast ADR. It was very convienent since we were staying at the Polynesian. We were paying for this out of pocket since we had dinners schedules for our dining plan credits. It was an absolute waste of $30. The food was HORRIBLE. The eggs were so runny they were likes soup, the potatoes were burned beyond recongnition. Our server pretty much ignored because there was a "regular" in her section so she spent her entire time chatting with him. When she realized that we hadn't eaten much she offered to get us something else, but I just wanted to leave. She didn't offer to take anything off the bill even when I showed her how runny the eggs were, so we just paid and got out of there.
I will not be back to Kona Café.

We LOVED the food at 'Ohana. Everything was delicious. The pacing of the food was great and our servers were on top of things.
The only real negative is that we were seated right on the aisle by where they do the kids games and we had parents trying to get pictures that were leaning across our table while we were trying to eat. Next time I will request a table not on the aisle.

A great meal. The buffet was very basic food, but good. My husband loved the carving station and went back for beef several times. The soup of the day when we were there was a chicken and corn chowder and it was out of this world. The only thing I tried that wasn't good was the chicken nuggets from the kids section - they were over cooked. We really liked the deserts, especially the soft serve ice cream.
The characters were fantastic as always. I was at the buffet when Donald came by and our server let him know and he came back for a picture. My husband had on a shirt with Pluto on it, so Pluto made a big deal out of that and it was really cute.
Pros:
Great characters, good foodCons:

Where to start. First we did on-line check in so it should have been a breeze. We (2 couples) got to the resort around 12:30 on 10/19/2013. I had asked for Building 9 and when I got our room number 8254 I asked about it and was told 'we are 100%'. I know a request is just that but I didn't ask for anything else just building 9. However my friends when they check in they were only giving the 1st 2 numbers of their room 82?? because it wasn't ready. Which made no sense because my room wasn't ready and I got a room number. DAH!!! So we both left our cell numbers so that we would get a text when the rooms were ready. So off to Downtown Disney for some lunch and check things out. By 4pm we still hadn't received a text so I called when we were back on the bus (going back to resort) and was told my room was ready. So I asked why didn't I receive a text? And again was told 'we are at 100%'. So I asked about my friend's room and was told she never checked in. Can we all say argghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh? So I hung up before I lost it and told her to call. She did and again was told her room wasn't ready and couldn't give them a real room number. Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture? If my room was ready and I got my room number when I checked in why didn't she? So we get back to the lobby and again she was told her room wasn't ready and yes of course NO ROOM number. So I asked about our luggage and was told it was in our rooms. So my friends husband said to them: You can't give us a room number but you are telling my our luggage is in that room? The clerk answered YES. And can't give a room number because the maid is in there cleaning it. arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. So we go to my room and what a surprise NO LUGGAGE and no MAID anywhere to be found on our floor. So it was nothing by lies so far. So I call down to find out about where is our luggage and was switched to the luggage room. In the meantime my friend gets a text saying her room was ready (which was right next door) so I had her go check to see if her luggage was in her room and wow what another surprise...NO LUGGAGE!!!!! So the person that was talking to me said they checked and yes our luggage (all our luggage) had been scanned and they will get it right up to us. By now it is well after 5pm and we had dinner reservastions for Narcoossee's at 7:50 so we were all getting nervous. Ok by 5:25 still no luggage so I call again asking to speak to a manager. Supposedly the manager gets on the phone and says they will get us our luggage and that they are at 100%. Ok I have had it with the 100%. That is a big resort but it is no surprise that they are at 100% as it just didn't happen over night and that they didn't know about it. I waited and still no luggage so I started walking to the lobby (which was a walk) and my husband calls me to say that my friend got their luggage I said what about ours? Nope so I kept walking 5 minutes goes by and my husband calls me back to say our luggage arrived. So I turned around as it was after 6 and we had to shower and change. I have now stayed at all the 'moderate resorts' and never ever will I stay here again. And towel animals what is up with that? Unless I asked for them we never got them. And I leave a tip in a cute little envelope that I do up before we leave for Disney. And the way they do their breakfast what another disaster. I understand that this is a 'business type' setting resort but none the less it is a Disney resort. And when most people are there they are looking to get up and out quickly..not wait to be seating (which can take forever as you have be be lead to a table (like we can't find one by ourselves). And the busses were not always as they should be. Because they didn't run like they should have we missed the opening of Magic Kingdom which is something I really enjoy. And it isn't because we were late it was because of the busses. There is just so much more I could write but I will stop here. I will apologize for any spelling and grammer issues in advance. But when I'm upset...

We came here several years ago as a substitue for Sci-Fi which had unexpectedly closed the day of our reservation. We always felt that as we had not chosen to come here we maybe judged it a little harshly so we arranged to come this time to give it another shot. I'm pleased we did. After a short wait (ADR was for 7.40) we sat down and our order was taken quickly and served quickly (but not too quickly!) We both had the minestrone and bread which were very tasty but not too filling. DH had the penne alla vodka and I had the chicken campanelle. Both came in enormous portions but were very tasty. Can't remember what we had for dessert but we enjoyed it. Price was very reasonable and we were out just in time to make the 9pm Fantasmic which I didn't think we would. A great experience and we wont leave it so long befopre our next visit.

We went in here about 7.50 one evening, just before closing to get something before Fantasmic. I ordered the hot dog, which was OK-not as good as Caseys but fine for a quick bite. DH ordered the grilled turkey and cheese, and despite there being only 3 other people placing orders at the time, and the chef assembling it to order, still managed to morph into a veggie sandwich by the time we sat down. DH was not pleased (he hates veggies!) The CM that served me was most aplogetic and replaced it immediately but its very disheartening when there was so few customers in there for them to make that mistake.

We chose this because we always do one character breakfast and DH is sick of being made to feel guilty when Piglet comes up just as he's chowing down on Piglet's Cousins bacon and sausage...The choice of foods was excellent and the addition of Jambo juice from Boma was great. Food was kept replenished and hot, with none of the crazy queueing system seen at Boma. The characters came around several times and the noise level wasn't horrendous. Only downside was that our photopass photo with Donald was out of focus-they did offer us the chance to go back and do it again at the end of the meal, but we thought it would be OK as they had also taken a photo on my camera-NOPE, that was all out of focus too. Wondering if the photographer had ever seen a camera before that morning!

DH was desperate to try this for the spare ribs as he's heard such good things about them. He had the ribs and chicken and we ordered the onion rings and fries to share. I am not much of a meat-eater so I ate his coleslaw with some onion rings and fries (not a nutritionally sound choice but hey I'm on holiday!!) He said the meat and the flavour of the rub was excellent. Our only complaint was that the onion rings were a little greasy but nevertheless very tasty. Plenty of seating if you are prepared to walk about 30 yards to the back of the seating area, and thankfully the birds weren't agressive at all.

Driven from our resort by horrendous overcrowding to a park with few counter service breakfast options this stood out. We both tried the spinach and goats cheese frittata and it was excellent! It was truly a change from the bounty platters that litter breakfast menus everywhere. Well made and tasty, the potatoes were also well done (as opposed to well-done!) and the salsa was an excellent addition taste-wise. Will definitiely go there again for brekkie.
