Review of Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House (Deluxe Resort)

The overall experience of staying at Animal Kingdom was good. The resort is true to its name!

However, we had a pool view, bunk bed room. The view of the pool was poor....it was more of a view of the outside seating area of The Mara. Our room was tiny....we had stayed at Coronado right before checking into AKL so we were saw a contrast in the size. There is a lot of room in the sink area but the bathroom size and lighting is terrible! Also we didn't feel wowed by the amenities.....a bit disappointing.

We are glad we tried this once though.

Animals

This was by far our most disappointing meal of our trip. Though the saganaki was some of the best we've ever had, my wife's steak was poorly planned and poorly executed. My lamb shank lacked in flavor.

Pros:

Appetizer

Cons:

Main courses were blah

We stayed at the Candy Cane Inn for our first trip to Disneyland. The hotel is very old but the room is updated, the flowers and bushes are beautiful. It backs up to Cars Land. We were very impressed with the location and for the money. We booked through Disneyland.

Pros:

location, cleaniness, price, quiet

Review of Animal Kingdom Lodge KIDANI Village (Disney Vacation Club)

This is our first trip to Kidani Village. My parents and I stayed in a 1BR villa. My favorite part of the Kidani and BLT 1BR villas is that they have 2 full bathrooms. That makes getting ready in the morning so much faster. The villa is a good size and the living room and bedroom share a balcony. The only drawbacks that we found are the dark interior of the villas and the long hallways. The buildings are lined up to maximize exposure to the savannahs. It makes for a very long walk from the bus depot in the evenings. An AKL exclusive is the night safari tour. We did it one evening and really enjoyed it. It meets at Sanaa at 10pm. You board a jeep to tour the savannahs. You’re given night vision goggles to see. (You can take pictures through the goggles.) We learned so much about the animals that we see from our room and it was so much fun to go out on the savannah.

Pros:

Savannah view; Night Safari

This tour is Kilimanjaro Safaris in-depth. It shares the same savannah as Kilimanjaro Safaris, but you see the animals closer and from different vantage points. We had 2 guides and 7 people on our tour. My parents (late 60's) were worried that the activity would be intense with walking and climbing. However, the activity was very mild. If you can walk in the parks all day, you’ll be ok on this 3 hour tour. We had 2 great guides with us throughout the tour and met 2 more guides on the trail. The tour was very informative about the animals and we had plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the animals. The food was very tasty and not overly spicy. Disney calls the meal a light snack, but I thought it was more a light lunch. The guides take photos of you throughout the tour for some great memorable shots.

Pros:

Guides, Photos, Light Lunch

I haven't been to Disney since they implemented this whole new system, and I am very impressed with this new website. It used to take hours to navigate the old Disney dining system, and even more time on the phone.
I made 7 ADR's in less than a half an hour.

Pros:

Easy to Navigate website

Review of Disney's Beach Club Resort Concierge Level

Hotel rooms are in need of renovations. The carpets, bedding, etc. are old and outdated.

The club level room is very tiny and is difficult to accommodate the large number of concierge level guests that the hotel allows.

The food options in the club room are very, very limited. They really need to enlarge the club room area and expand on the food options.

It is very pricey to stay club level and I think that the value for the extra money spent to stay club level is not worth it.

Pros:

Location, Location, Location

Cons:

Aging hotel rooms and tiny club room

Review of FastPass+ (Retired)

First, I must say that I am a huge planner. I love to plan my vacations. That said, I found this system restrictive, rigid and left no time for a spontaneous moment. I hated using my phone constantly in the park. And to add to the frustration, the system was not always accessible. I do not want to plan my days 60 days in advance because the weather in Florida is so unpredicable. A rainy day can mean a drastic change of plans, which doesnt work out when fastpasses are no longer available. As for the new parkhopping feature, you must use your three fastpasses at one park, then go to the other park and make your selection for one additional fastpass at the kiosk. The kiosks had tremendous lines when we were at the park in late April, after spring break. I dont think it is possible to decide the night before which park you would like to visit. I will not visit again until the system is changed which makes me very sad. I love Disney and have been to the parks multiple times per year. I do not live anywhere near Florida and have visited 30 days per year. I cannot imagine the confusion and lack of fastpass selections in the summer when the thousands of tour groups descend on the theme parks. I am so disappointed in this system and eagerly await the day that it is revised.

Pros:

none

Cons:

No more spontaneity
