How You Can Opt Out of Disney’s Facial Recognition System

Disney continues to do its best to try to make visiting its theme parks more convenient with each visit. For example, Disney World has a high-tech contactless security system that has put an end to bag checks (for the most part). Disney World has also previously experimented with facial recognition at park entrances, and now Disneyland has put facial recognition into place at its entrances.

Well, if you’re not comfortable with facial recognition, you do have an option: you can opt out, and we’re going to tell you how you can do that.

According to Disney, guests may now choose to use entrance lanes that have facial recognition technology at the entrances to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. The idea is that the technology will make reentry into the parks a lot easier while also preventing fraud. These lanes work by using images of your face taken by a camera at the entrance and the image of your face that was saved when you first used your ticket or pass.

Images are converted into unique numerical values, and that data is deleted within 30 days of creation. Here’s the important thing, though: you don’t have to participate. There are still entrance lanes at both parks that don’t use this technology,  so you can choose those instead, where your ticket will be manually validated. Note that images may still be taken in these lanes, but they will not be converted into numerical values for biometric processing.

To use these lanes, enter through the parks’ main entrances along the Esplanade and choose an entrance lane that says “Entrance” on overhead signage.
