Buckle Up! Robot Olaf Is Coming to More Disney Theme Parks

Ever since the Olaf animatronic, or Robo-Olaf, made his debut at Disneyland Paris’ new Disney Adventure World, the world has fallen in love with him.

The snowman who loves warm hugs is part of the brand-new World of Frozen in Disney Adventure World, and he has captured so many hearts. Ever since we’ve seen him, we’ve been wishing on a star that he would make his way over to our home parks. Crazy enough, our wish might come true.

We’re freaking out over a new report that just came out! According to a new report from Fast Company, the Olaf animatronic will eventually be coming to both Disneyland and Disney World. It was revealed by Walt Disney Imagineering that the Olaf robot will show up for photo op appearances at Disneyland and “other Disney theme parks around the world.”

Walt Disney Imagineering’s Senior Vice President for Research and Development, Kyle Laughlin, said that Olaf robots will eventually appear at Disney parks around the world. However, that’s not the only place he’s stopping at, as Imagineering has plans to send him on the Disney Cruise Line.

“He’s one of our most popular characters, so domestically you’ll also see him as well,” Laughlin said. “That’s really kind of the important point: We really are building these now for operations and to ensure that they’re everywhere.”

These animatronics are very cool! It walks, talks, and is remotely controlled with pre-recorded lines provided by the actual voice actor of Olaf in Frozen, Josh Gad.

What’s so innovative about this figure is that Disney Imagineering used an AI tool called “reinforcement learning” to teach the Olaf robot how to move, turn his head, make eye contact, etc. Although the animatronic isn’t built for meet-and-greet interactions yet, Kyle Laughlin did say, “The North Star goal that we have is to be able to have that huggable moment.” We wonder what that could mean in the future!

There isn’t any information on when we could be seeing Olaf pop up at other parks and cruise ships. We’ll be patiently waiting for some more information, and then we’ll be passing that along. So, you’ll want to follow us at AllEars!
