If you have a flight to Disney World coming up, we’re not telling you to hit the panic button, but be warned that air travel is a little chaotic right now — especially at the Orlando Airport!

All across the country, airlines have been reporting major delays and flight cancellations due to bad weather, staffing shortages, and more. Now, the Orlando Airport has a new statement as the government shutdown continues.
On Thursday, October 30th, a total of 7,084 flights were delayed and 1,248 flights were canceled in the United States, according to Good Morning America. Today, on October 31st, flights across the country have already seen 520 delays and 224 cancellations as of this morning– and counting.

There are two main factors contributing to the issue right now. First, airports are understaffed due to the ongoing government shutdown. The impact of that has been evident at the Orlando Airport. Orlando Airport has only been able to accommodate around ten planes per hour, according to Good Morning America.

Today, the Orlando Airport has already experienced 37 flight delays and 18 flight cancellations. The airport released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “Due to staffing-related challenges by the FAA, we’re currently experiencing flight delays.”
Operational Update: Due to staffing-related challenges by the FAA, we're currently experiencing flight delays. For real-time airport status & delay times, visit https://t.co/498e8noAQK. For information relating to your flight, please contact your airline directly. Thank you.

The second issue impacting flights is the dangerous weather in the Northeast. The FAA said it expects to see ground stops, more delays, and cancellations due to a storm in the Northeast, per Good Morning America.

At this time, it’s unclear how long the government shutdown will last, but it has affected many travelers and thousands of employees. This travel issue comes at a busy time as we start to enter the holiday season. Many families will want to get together for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, so hopefully the situation can be resolved soon.
