If you’re keeping up with the hurricane news, you’ve come to the right place.

Recently, the National Hurricane Center has been monitoring several tropical storms. Particularly, Tropical Storm Erin, which is causing some to pause as it continues to grow in the Atlantic. Now, the NHC is back with several updates, and we’re detailing them here.
According to the National Hurricane Center, there is now an issued advisory regarding Tropical Storm Erin. As of 5 AM on August 12th, 2025, the NHC has shared that TS Erin is expected to begin strengthening. It’s likely to become a hurricane later this week in the central tropical Atlantic.

Aside from TS Erin, the NHC has shared that they are watching a “surface trough near the coast of Louisiana.” They expect the surface trough could cause localised flooding along the coast. However, they aren’t expecting it to develop into anything further.

There is also a non-tropical storm developing southeast of Nova Scotia, but this is also not expected to develop further. In the Central North Pacific, the small Hurricane Henriette is expected to continue to weaken as it moves.

Currently, TS Erin isn’t expected to impact Florida in a major way; however, that could change if the storm develops. We are no strangers to hurricane prep in Walt Disney World, so if you end up in the parks when a storm is expected to hit, we have a few tips! Remember that hurricane season in Florida runs from June 1st to November 30th, so that’s a good chunk of the year you need to be prepared.

First, know Disney World’s hurricane policies. From trip cancellations to park closures, having a broad idea of what you need to expect can prepare you for the worst. Second, be sure to bring your rain gear! Whatever that means to you. For us, that’s a Frogg Togg Poncho, TEVAS, and an umbrella.

Third, keep an eye on the weather. If you know it’s going to rain and you can mentally prepare for that, you will have a better time! Getting caught off guard by the weather can throw a real wrench in your plans. Plus, that’s how you end up spending too much on in-park rain gear. Fourth, expect rides to close! When the weather gets bad, outdoor attractions will close, making you change your plans. This can also see an increase in the lines for indoor attractions, so just get ready!

Remember, the rain won’t kill your trip! Spend a fun resort day inside or head out into the rain with your Frogg Togg and a smile. As always, be sure to keep following AllEars for more Disney weather alerts and updates.
