A popular Disney television series is ending…and already getting a spinoff?

The television industry is in an interesting place. The prevalence of reboots, revived shows, and spinoffs, driven by attempts to boost streaming services, sometimes makes it feel like shows never end. That’s definitely the case with some major news that came out regarding several Disney projects this week.
This week, Deadline announced that Disney Channel’s Raven’s Home — the modern spinoff of the early 2000s Disney Channel hit That’s So Raven — is ending after six seasons. However, this doesn’t mark the end of Raven-Symoné’s long-running relationship with Disney. In fact, according to Deadline, she’s signed a new multi-year deal overall deal with Disney to “produce, direct, and develop projects across linear and streaming, with a focus on multi-cam comedies.”

The first of these new projects? A Raven’s Home spinoff entitled Alice in the Palace, which will follow Alice (Mykal-Michelle Harris), Raven’s character’s young cousin as she “returns to England and reunites with Duchess Clementine (also portrayed by Harris), a young royal who looks exactly like her. In the process, Clementine gets a taste of the fun side of “normal” life, while Alice gets a taste of the finer side of “regal” life.”

Ayo Davis, Disney’s President of Branded Television, said of Raven and the new spinoff, “Raven is a true trailblazer who constantly pushes creative boundaries in acting, producing, and directing. For six incredible seasons, Raven’s Home has been a cornerstone series for Disney Channel, bringing joy, laughter, and tackling real-life issues in a relatable and meaningful way for kids and families. We are delighted to continue our close relationship with Raven for many years to come, starting with the new spin-off Alice in the Palace.“

However, the end of Raven’s Home/continuation with Alice in the Palace wasn’t the only Disney TV news this week, as we also learned more about TWO further Disney Channel legacy projects.
First, the upcoming Selena Gomez-produced Wizards of Waverly Place revival/continuation/spinoff series has a new confirmed title — Wizards Beyond Waverly Place — as well as a new cast photo shared by Gomez at the recent Disney Upfronts.

The series stars David Henrie (reprising his role as Justin Russo), Mimi Gianopulos, Alkaio Thiele, Max Manteko, and Janice LeAnn Brown. Producer Selena Gomez will also guest star as her Wizards of Waverly Place character, Alex Russo. It’s scheduled to premiere sometime in 2024.
TIMELINE REVEALED for Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place Sequel
Next up, there’s ZOMBIES: The Re-Animated Series. The new series is an expansion of the wildly popular ZOMBIES movie franchise, starring animated versions of the characters. Franchise veterans returning for the new series include Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly as Zed and Addison, respectively, as well as Terry Hu, Chandler Kinney, Pearce Joza, Ariel Martin, Carla Jeffery, Trevor Tordjman, Kylee Russell, and James Godfrey. Kahyun Kim is joining the cast as a new character. Each episode of the series — which premieres on June 28th — will feature “brand-new original songs performed by the stars of the franchise,” and a soundtrack album is being released on the same day the series debuts.

Disney, like many in the entertainment industry, are banking heavily on reboots, spinoffs, and legacy sequels for the Disney Channels upcoming programming slate. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney entertainment news.
