The entertainment industry as we know it has been on pause recently, due to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, which began in May.

Soon after, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artist (SAG-AFTRA) joined WGA at the picket line. After 146 days of striking, unions have come to a “tentative” agreement. Here’s what we know!
According to ABC, Unions representing Hollywood writers reached a tentative deal with studios on Sunday, September 24th. The strike, which lasted 146 days, brought TV and movie production to a halt in many instances, and resulted in the delay of many highly-anticipated films and TV shows — Disney ones included.

An email was sent to WGA members on Sunday night, stating, “WGA has reached a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. This was made possible by the enduring solidarity of WGA members and extraordinary support of our union siblings who joined us on the picket lines for over 146 days,”

This deal followed lengthy negotiations between WGA and The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), who negotiated on behalf of studios. On Wednesday, both parties released statements confirming that they had met to begin negotiations and that talks would resume on Thursday, which gave hope to many in the industry that a deal would be made. After more negotiating on Friday and Saturday, the deal was struck.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass acknowledged the 146-day strike and stated that she was hopeful that the same sort of deal could be reached with SAG-AFTRA. She continued by saying, “This historic strike impacted so many across Los Angeles and across the nation. Now, we must focus on getting the entertainment industry, and all the small businesses that depend on it, back on their feet and stronger than ever before.”
