Yes, we got a LOT of news from the Q1 2023 earnings call, but we had updates on loads of other things, too. In case you happened to miss any news, though, we’re going to go through the biggest stories to get you caught up.

Reservations Now Open For Garden Rocks Dining Packages

The 2023 EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival begins on March 1st and runs to July 5th. The Garden Rocks concert series will be returning with the festival this year, and reservations for dining packages are now available.

The dining packages include an appetizer, entrée, and dessert or one full buffet/family-style meal, as well as a nonalcoholic beverage, except at Spice Road Table, which will include two small plates, a shared dessert platter, and a non-alcoholic beverage. It also includes guaranteed seating for the concert on the day of the reservation.

Full Housekeeping Returning To Disney World Hotels

Since Disney World’s hotels reopened, housekeeping at the hotels has been modified, with the most recent schedule being light housekeeping every other day at most resorts. However, Disney announced that full housekeeping will return to all Disney World hotels by the end of February.

This includes some of those extra touches that have also been missing from Disney rooms, like towel animals and displays with plush animals.

Earnings Call

We had a lot of news dropping with The Walt Disney Company’s Q1 2023 earnings call, the first for Bob Iger since he returned as CEO. We learned about the latest subscriber numbers for Disney+, just how well the parks are doing financially, and more.

We also learned that Frozen, Toy Story, and Zootopia would be getting sequels. Disney also announced that it was doing some cost-cutting, starting with laying off 7,000 employees.

Nelson Peltz Steps Down From Proxy Battle

Nelson Peltz has been in a proxy battle against Disney for a seat on the company’s Board of Directors. Peltz is part of the Trian Group, an activist investor group. The group released a statement that Michael Froman should be removed from the Board so Peltz could take his place after Peltz disagreed with some recent decisions made by Disney.

However, Peltz announced that the proxy battle was over after Disney’s Q1 2023 earnings call. He said, “Now Disney plans to do everything we wanted them to do. We wish the very best to Bob [Iger], this management team, and the board. We will be watching. We will be rooting.”

Reedy Creek Updates

If you’ve been following the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) Dissolution situation, you’ll know it’s a complicated one. The RCID has a board of directors selected by landowners in the district. This week, amendments to a bill were proposed in the Florida House that would change the Board to a group nominated by the Florida Governor and strip the RCID of certain powers and perks.

The State Affairs Committee held a meeting and these amendments, except for one related to the legal description of the land of the District, failed. After debate, the committee members took a vote and the bill was reported favorably and will go back to the House Floor.
