Reimagined Mickey’s Toontown Will Include a BIG Tribute to Walt Disney

Last month, Disneyland announced that they would be closing Mickey’s Toontown this coming March to completely reimagine the land with all-new attractions, entertainment, and activities.

The new land won’t open until early 2023, but we’ve already learned quite a few details about what the new area will include! For example, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be the newest ride, Mickey and friends will have a meet and greet location, and there will be new water play areas for kids. And, now we have more information on one part of the land that will pay tribute to Walt Disney himself!

As part of the new CenTOONial Park (which will be located at the center of the reimagined Mickey’s Toontown), guests will find a fountain with water tables and a new “dreaming tree” playset that is said to be inspired by the tree that Walt Disney would sit under and daydream in his hometown when he was young. And, now Disney has revealed MORE about what will make this tree so special!

According to the Orange County Register, this new playset will be designed based on a Cottonwood Tree, which is the exact type of tree that Walt Disney sat under in Marceline, Missouri.

The author of Walt’s Disneyland, Marcy Carriker Smothers, describes more of what made the tree significant saying that “Back when he was a young boy in Marceline, he used to lie under its dappled leaves and dream. He named it the Dreaming Tree, crediting it as the birthplace of his imagination.”

And, as a little preview of what the playset will actually look like, the Orange County Register says that “Children will be able to climb and play on the sculpted Dreaming Tree roots popping out of…a new grassy play area.”
