NEWS: First Cases of COVID-19 Omicron Strain Detected in Florida

As the situation with COVID-19 continues to change and develop, AllEars will be bringing you the latest relevant news that could affect a theme park visit.

A lot has changed in regards to the global health crisis over the past two years.

Most recently, the focus has been on the newly emerging COVID-19 variant known as B.1.1.529 or the “Omicron” variant. The strain was recently identified in several states within the U.S. and now we have an update from Florida.

According to Spectrum News 13, a hospital in Tampa Bay, Florida has its first confirmed case of the Omicron COVID-19 variant. Additionally, the Tampa Bay Times has reported that a patient tested positive for the variant on Monday, December 6th as well.

These are the first cases of the strain that have been detected in Florida.

Reports from the hospital in Tampa Bay indicate that the patient is “only experiencing mild symptoms, but did recently return from travel abroad.”

As a reminder, face masks are currently required to be worn by all Disney World guests (regardless of their vaccination status) at all indoor locations, including select transportation vehicles.
