You'll Never BELIEVE the Cost of Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' Series!

Amazon is currently producing a highly-anticipated NEW Lord of the Rings series set to debut on Prime Video.

Amazon purchased the rights to J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth franchise in 2017 and set out to create a series set within this fantasy world!

According to The Hollywood Reporter and Stuart Nash, New Zealand Minister for Economic Development and Tourism, this new series will cost upwards of $465 million in U.S. dollars just for season one (!!!). He goes on to claim that this will be the largest television series ever made!

These numbers come as a surprise since the show was estimated to cost $500 million for MULTIPLE seasons. However, with any new fantasy show, the first season will usually cost more because of world-building through the use of sets, costumes, and props.

The show is described as being about the legends of the Second Age of Middle-Earth’s history and is set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It will follow both new and familiar characters as they confront the re-emergence of evil to Middle-Earth.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast will include Robert Aramayo (Game of Thrones), Owain Arthur (Kingdom), Nazanin Boniadi (Counterpart), Tom Budge (The Pacific), Ismael Cruz Cordova (The Catch), Joseph Mawle (Game of Thrones), and many others.
