Ever since the theme parks closed down a year ago due to the pandemic, we’ve been keeping an eye on health and safety measure recommendations.

We’ve been particularly checking out the recommendations released by the CDC as they share information on masks, vaccines, and safety precautions. Now, we’re hearing reports that the CDC is analyzing new data that may change how we physically distance ourselves from others.
According to Axios, a new study was recently conducted in Massachusetts public schools to see if the 6ft physically distancing guideline was necessary. The study found that there was no significant difference in COVID-19 case numbers in the schools that followed the 6 feet guideline versus schools that followed a 3 feet distancing rule.

Now, Dr. Fauci has shared that the CDC is taking a closer look at this study and analyzing the data to see if the reports are accurate. If it does turn out to be true, then Fauci says “it won’t be very long” until the CDC adjusts their guidelines and recommendations for physical distancing.

Ever since the theme parks reopened, they’ve been operating with the 6-foot rule in lines around the parks and resorts. We’ll make sure to keep an eye on this story to see if the CDC releases new information and if so, we’ll continue to watch the theme parks like Disney World and Universal Orlando for any changes and updates to policies.

UPDATE: On Friday, March 19th, the CDC released new guidelines for distancing in schools. They are now stating that most students should be able to sit 3ft apart instead of 6, so long as they are wearing masks.

In communities where transmission is high, the CDC recommends that middle and high school students continue to keep the 6ft distance if they aren’t able to be in assigned groups. Studies have shown that elementary students are at less risk for transmitting the disease, so even in high-transmission areas, they can remain safe at a 3ft distance.

At this time, the CDC also recommends that adults stay 6ft away from each other and from students. The extra distance should also be kept in common areas, when eating, during indoor activities (like band and sports), and outside of the classroom.
