It's Official — This Disney Live-Action Remake Is DEAD

In the film world, even if things look like they’re going to be greenlit and go into production, things can change at any stage of the process and result in the project being scrapped. It’s not ideal, but it happens way more often than many people realize.

Back in April 2020, there was talk that Disney’s 1973 film Robin Hood would become another live-action remake from the company. But now, it’s looking like the future of that film is nonexistent — here’s what we know.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the live-action remake of Robin Hood isn’t looking likely. During a recent Reddit AMA, filmmaker Carlos López Estrada confirmed that the studio was not moving forward with the photorealistic musical he had planned and pitched. The film was in early development in April 2020 before the COVID-19 Pandemic closed down the film industry. Writer Kari Granlund was working on the script that would be a mix of live action and CGI. She previously worked on the 2019 Lady and the Tramp remake done by Disney as well — it was also the first live-action remake to debut on a streaming platform.

When replying to a question about the film, Estrada said, “It’s dead, sadly. I say ‘sadly’ because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it. I keep daydreaming about doing it independently with different characters.”
