Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser might have been one of the company’s most ambitious projects to date. However, Disney decided to close the doors on the experience-meets-hotel concept only a little over a year after it opened.

The building has remained abandoned ever since, although Disney did eventually confirm that it was working on renovating the experience into office space for Disney Imagineering. Since then, we’ve seen construction permits for renovating the space, and we’ve seen photos showing some of the work being done. Well, now, we’ve got a new construction update for the old Galactic Starcruiser project to share.
Thanks to @bioreconstruct, we have some new aerial photos that show the construction progress on the old Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, aka the Halcyon. This photo shows the former climate simulator, which was an area where you could get a view of the outdoors (although it was considered a simulator on the Halcyon). Here’s what it looked like when we had an opportunity to visit the experience:

Here’s what the exterior of that space looks like now. As you can see, there are plenty of construction workers on site. If we had to guess, the climate simulator may stay mostly intact and become a sort of break space for Imagineers. At least that makes the most sense on how to utilize that area.

Here’s an overall overview of what the Galactic Starcruiser looks like now. As you can see, it’s a pretty massive space. We’ll be curious to see if Disney decides to keep any of the cool decor from the original experience. Although it could be a little disheartening for Imagineers who would have to work out of a space that’s a reminder of a failed project.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the space, as well as looking out for updates, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.

Had Disney incorporated actual STAR WARS (Luke Han Leia Vader Yoda, etc.) into the Starcruiser experience, it would probably still be open.
