“Traumatized Me for Years!” Disney Adults Are Sharing Their FIRST Disney World Memories

Brace yourselves — it’s time to do a little bit of time traveling and revisit some fond (and sometimes terrifying) Disney World memories!

Mad Tea Party

Few things are as impactful as your first Disney World memory. It feels like the music, colors, characters, and the joy we felt on our first rides are burned into our brains forever — so much so that we spend the rest of our lives dedicated to the Disney fandom. Whether your first memory was spinning around in the teacups or indulging in some cotton candy, we want to hear about it!

We asked our AllEars readers on Facebook, “What’s your very first Disney World memory? Was it a ride, a character hug, a parade, a smell, a snack, a moment of pure wonder?” Our readers had lots to say!

Reader Lindsay wrote, “Riding the teacups with my dad when I was 3. I don’t remember the ride as much as I remember my dad getting sick after. 🤣

For many — including us, here at AllEars — that first memory usually includes the Mad Tea Party! The iconic ride is a bunch of chaotic fun, especially when you’re a tiny tot!

Reader Elaine wrote, “Tiki room. Back in 1986? My mother and I took my 2 girls for the first of many trips. My youngest loved the Tiki room. We stayed at the Howard Johnson as a good neighbor hotel. Went to dinner there and [my] daughter expected the fake flowers to start singing. Magic moment!”

How cute! Disney really sets the standard for how fake plants should be, huh?!

Reader Michael had us in the first half, writing, “One was riding in an old car, hitting a train head-on and ending up in Hell surrounded by demons. The other was when we went for the 15th anniversary and my sister won a pin for a prize when she scanned her ticket in.”

Those in the know remember that’s EXACTLY what happens on the now-defunct (but still available at Disneyland) Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride!

Reader Rebecca wrote, “My first trip the castle was pink birthday cake and my kindergarten heart could not have loved anything more. And walking through Minnie’s house with a close friend whose family was also down there, just living like the queen herself…Also burned into my memory? Going to hell on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Traumatized me for years. 😅 That and Snow White’s Scary Adventure. Dark rides man… I think they actually made me scared of the dark for years. lol”

We can see why it was called Snow White’s SCARY adventures…

Reader Sue has a very sentimental memory, writing, “Mary Poppins shook my hand during the parade. I was 4 1/2 in 1973, and my first movie in a theater was Mary Poppins.”

That must’ve been a life-changing moment! Meeting Mary Poppins after seeing the movie has to be a top-10 experience of all time!
