According to the MCU film’s official synopsis, Fantastic Four: First Steps is “set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world”, which explains why the characters will be appearing in Tomorrowland as opposed to Avengers Campus. The film follows “Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

The Matt Shakman-directed film stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular heroes, Reed “Mr. Fantastic” Richards, Susan “The Invisible Woman” Storm, Johnny “The Human Torch” Storm, and Ben “The Thing” Grimm, respectively. Ralph Ineson and Julia Garner also star as Galactus and the Shalla-Bal version of the Silver Surfer.
