After a long day on vacation, there might not be any greater feeling than throwing back the sheets in your hotel room and climbing into bed with a movie playing. Sometimes, this dream doesn’t come true, and unexpected incidents are bound to happen.

Two guests have won a civil suit against a California hotel for a bed bug problem in 2020.
Two guests staying at the Shores Inn have been awarded $2 million for bed bug issues, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The guests stayed at the hotel located in Ventura for one night in February 2020. The lawsuit says, “The bed bugs latched onto the plaintiffs while they slept, sucked their blood until they were gorged and resisted eradication.”

They say the two guests were “exposed to painful and disgusting bed bug infestations” along with physical, emotional, and mental anguish. The lawsuit also claims that the hotel management was aware of the bed bug issue from reviews on Google and Yelp, which had warned others about the problem.

One guest was awarded $400,000, and the other received $600,000. The jury also awarded $500,000 each to the guests for punitive damages. The attorney specializes in bed bug cases and said the $2 million jury award was the largest he’s seen in his career.

This is the largest bed bug-related jury award on record, according to the Los Angeles Times.
In 2022, Disneyland paid a guest $100,000 for a lawsuit saying the guest was bitten by bedbugs during their stay in 2018. Bed bug incidents can happen anywhere, so stay aware.
