We Have BAD NEWS About Disney World Refillable Mugs

Typhoon Lagoon reopened for the first time this year after its seasonal closure and while we are so happy to see our favorite slides and snack stands open, we were pretty bummed to see this major change.

We love grabbing a soda and a snack and lounging around the water park, but getting drinks might look a little different now.

When we went to the Snack Shack at Typhoon Lagoon to grab a soda, we learned there are no more refillable drink cups! They have started using single-use cups, which aren’t available for refills.

The soda machines are now boarded up around the park, and Cast Members told us it might have been because of bees and how much they liked the soda machines (hey, we liked them, too!).

Previously, when you’d purchase the souvenir mug, you got free unlimited refills for the day, and if you came back on another day, you could reactivate the mug.

When we spoke to more Cast Members, they were under the impression that even the Miss Tilly Sipper Cup only came with one drink and no continuous refills throughout the day. However, on Mobile Order in the My Disney Experience app, it states it is “eligible for refills at Typhoon Lagoon Quick-Service Locations for the entire day.”

This comes with a bit of disappointment, as we enjoy the refillable resort mugs around the Disney Resorts, where you get free drink refills for two weeks after making a one-time purchase. You’re only able to refill them in the resorts, and not in the parks, but we like it when Disney makes it easy to have our favorite drinks throughout the day.

Blizzard Beach, Disney World’s second water park, closed on May 1st but will reopen alongside Typhoon Lagoon starting on May 21st. We’re going to be keeping an eye on both parks to see if the soda refill situation changes at all.

If you want to head to either of the water parks, don’t forget that Disney World Resort guests get free entry to the water parks on the check-in day of their trip. It’s a great way to save money on a ticket and enjoy the day, making a splash.
