We all love a good hack that’ll save us time at Disneyland, right?

We see folks asking all the time how to avoid long wait times and make the most of a Disneyland day — and yeah, there are still some lesser-known hacks that seriously pay off. From skipping the worst crowds to getting on big-ticket rides without waiting 90 minutes, these tricks have stood the test of time. Whether you’re a Disneyland pro or this is your first visit in a while, here are the hacks we’re honestly shocked haven’t been banned (yet).
Stacking Lightning Lanes Like a Pro
Okay, this one’s for the folks willing to pay a little extra to maximize their time — Lightning Lane is your best friend. You can buy Lightning Lane Single Pass for the big rides (like Rise of the Resistance), or use the regular Lightning Lane system to knock out a bunch of other attractions throughout the day.

The real hack is in stacking Lightning Lanes in the afternoon. While you’re rope dropping in the morning, start stacking reservations for the late morning and early afternoon. By the time noon hits, you’re bouncing from ride to ride with minimal waits.
Getting Through Security Crazy Early
This one feels like cheating (but it’s not). If the park opens at 8AM, you need to be going through security no later than 7AM. That’s because Disneyland soft opens the front gates early, and rope drop doesn’t happen at the gate—it happens inside the park.

Being through security and in line for rope drop before the floodgates open is how you score near walk-ons for rides like Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, or Peter Pan without paying a cent more.

If you’re rolling up to security right at 8AM? You’re already behind.
Late-Night Pirates and Smuggler’s Run
This one blows people’s minds every time: don’t waste your time rope dropping Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run or Pirates of the Caribbean. Both of these are late-night sleeper hits.

The crowds die down hard after dark (especially if you hang back during the fireworks), and these rides can be total walk-ons right before close. Save them for later and thank us when you’re coasting through with zero wait at 9:45PM.
Skip Rope Drop for Rise of the Resistance
We know it’s tempting. You think Rise = top-tier ride = gotta be first. But here’s the thing—Rise of the Resistance often isn’t even open right when the park opens. It’s notorious for delayed starts, and rope dropping it usually means standing around while cast members try to get the systems working.

Instead you’ll want to circle back right before park close. Wait times can drop to 30 minutes or less, and the vibe is unbeatable at night in Galaxy’s Edge. You’re not only skipping the chaos, you’re ending your day with a bang.
Leverage Rider Switch Like a Pro
Got a little one who’s not tall enough (or just not into thrill rides)? Disneyland’s Rider Switch is a gift. When one adult rides, the other stays back with the kid—and then they get to switch out without waiting in line again.

Also, the second adult can bring up to two people with them. So yes, you can ride twice while someone else is on baby duty, which is absolute magic if you’re traveling with a small group or older kids. Just ask the cast member at the entrance of the ride to set it up. No app, no hassle.
Pre-Show Room Strategy
Rides like Haunted Mansion and Guardians of the Galaxy have pre-show rooms before the main queue continues. And here’s the secret—where you stand in that room matters.

Position yourself near the doors that will open when the pre-show ends, and you’ll shave time off your wait by being first into the next line. Every little shortcut adds up on busy days, and this one is sneaky-effective.
Buddy Pass on Winnie the Pooh
This one is so low-key most guests don’t even know it exists. If you’re at Winnie the Pooh and see a cast member at the front, ask if they’re offering a Buddy Pass (also called a Roo Pass).

It works a lot like single rider: if there’s a seat to fill, they’ll slip you in without waiting in the regular line. It’s hit or miss depending on the day, but when it’s offered, it’s a total time-saver.
Skip the Parade and Fireworks, Hit the Rides
This one’s controversial, but hear us out. Fireworks and parades are beautiful — and they also pull huge crowds off the rides. If you’ve already seen them (or don’t care about seeing them), that’s the time to hustle to attractions with normally brutal waits. Just be warned: right after fireworks end, there’s a huge spike in ride traffic, so move fast before the crowds start migrating.

Disneyland has changed a lot over the years, but these hacks are still solid. Use them while you still can — because if Disney ever decides to crack down, we’re gonna miss these little wins.
