ALS is a disease that affects the nervous system, most specifically targeting the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This results in a loss of muscle control that gets worse over time. It’s often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, named after the baseball player who was diagnosed with it. No specific cause is known. There is no known cure for the disease.

Eric Dane is also known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey’s Anatomy, where he starred in over 100 episodes.
