CEO Bob Iger Promises to Add Jobs Following Multiple Rounds of Layoffs

The Walt Disney Company is no stranger to layoffs. The most recent was on March 5th, when about 200 employees were laid off from ABC News and Disney Entertainment.

We also saw large layoffs in 2024 and about 7,000 employees in 2023. Recently, Disney CEO Bob Iger spoke out at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders with the promise of creating new jobs. Let’s take a look at some of the new opportunities within the company.

During the Shareholders meeting, Iger said, “Guests are going to love the many new offerings coming to our theme parks, and we’re proud of the positive impact that these projects will have in the communities in which we operate, including creating thousands of new jobs in Florida and California.”

Each of the six parks in the United States has some sort of construction project, with the biggest ones being at Disney World.

Animal Kingdom is demolishing Dinoland U.S.A. to replace it with Tropical Americas Land, Pueblo Esperanza. This will involve brand new rides, restaurants, and other offerings.

At Hollywood Studios, Muppets Courtyard is being completely reworked into Monstropolis for Monsters, Inc. Again, new shows and rides and other experiences will be added.

Magic Kingdom seems to be getting the most work done, with a new Cars-themed area and Villains Land going behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which will be the “largest ever.”

This will increase the minimum number of Cast Members needed for operation and create jobs through the construction.

In addition to the theme parks, Disney Cruise Line is also doubling its capacity. Disney Cruise Line currently has six ships, the most recent to set sail being the Disney Treasure. They’re adding seven more ships, including the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure, launching this year.

Each cruise ship is home to about 1,400 or more Cast Members. Seven more ships will create a lot of employment opportunities.

It looks like there’s a lot happening at the Walt Disney Company right now, and hopefully, this will create a positive environment for more employment opportunities. Keep following AllEars to stay up to date on everything Disney.

  1. So getting rid of hundreds of higher paying jobs that require specialized skillsets and years of experience, but they’re adding a handful of minimum wage jobs shoveling garbage.
