“DON’T EAT IT!” — My Family Still Makes Fun of Me for Doing This in Disneyland 22 Years Ago

Even though I typically plan Disney trips down to the minute, I am convinced the best memories you’ll have cannot be planned.

I’ve been going to Disneyland for as long as I can remember!

As a huge Disney fan myself, I adore reading about people’s unique experiences in the theme parks. The best ones are always unexpected or impulsive! So really, this post is just an excuse to collect comments from you all and hear your Disney stories. I’ll go first and then it’s your turn!

The number one Disney story that gets brought up when my family is together is what I call the “Don’t Eat It” story. It is about something I did as a two-year-old in Disneyland…and my family — especially my parents — will never let me live it down.

Disneyland

Let me set the scene. My parents and I are sitting on Main Street, U.S.A. waiting for the parade to start. Right before this, we stopped at Candy Palace where they let me pick out a sweet treat. Of course, I chose the Mickey Mouse cookie…because what two-year-old doesn’t want their favorite character as a cookie?!

I still get a Mickey-shaped cookie every time I go to Disneyland

Since my parents were and will always be Disney adults, they knew to stake out a spot about 20 minutes before the parade started. Before it got going, my dad decided to run me to the bathroom. Here’s where it gets good.

Main Street, U.S.A.

I took a few steps following after my dad, stopped in my tracks, and whipped my head around to look at my mom who was holding the Mickey cookie. Apparently, in an extremely serious tone with a scrunched grumpy face, I shouted, “DON’T eat it!” They said they had never heard such an angry sound like that come out of my mouth before.

Pretty sure this is what I looked like

Yes, even at two years old I had my priorities straight. That entire Mickey cookie (that was bigger than my face, by the way), was all for me. I was not sharing.

Luckily my mom listened because when I got back the cookie was still intact. Whew. She always says this little comment is one of her “core memories” with me.

And if anyone goes to Disneyland or Disney World with me nowadays, they know it’s the same case. It’s been 22 years, but I still have that toddler Gremlin in me who does not want to share my Disney snacks. Can you blame me, though?

Nope, I’m not sharing

I will never live that down and I’m perfectly fine with that fact. That is the reason you go on Disney trips. You’ll have memories that truly do last a lifetime, even if we all remember a silly comment more than the over-the-top parades and incredible attractions.

I want to hear your stories! Whether they are magical, hilarious, devastating, or anything in between, drop them in the comments!
