Have you ever thought about the difference between traveling and a vacation?

For those of us who travel to Disney World or other theme parks, we can probably attest that there is little rest to be found on these trips. We are usually walking long periods of time while waking up early and going to bed late. But the newest trend in travel is having us rethink our next vacation destination!
Sleep tourism is a new and growing trend in the travel industry. This is where you travel for the primary reason to get a better night’s sleep. According to CNET.com, “Poor sleep and lack of rest and recovery can be linked to poor health outcomes and lower rates of happiness.”. With this, people are seeking vacation spots to not only rest but to sleep better.

Instead of using your vacation for sightseeing, you would spend it sleeping. Some hotels are buying into this by offering hypnotherapists on hand, and others might include guest access to a sensory deprivation chamber.

Depending on where you stay, you may expect to see some or many of the following amenities:
- Advanced smart bed mattresses
- Soft colors
- In-house sleep hypnotists
- Sleep masks
- Ambient sound generators
- In-house masseuse
- Personalized pillows
- Sauna
- Spa
- Aromatherapy
- Smart lighting
- Teas and other soothing beverages
- Heated flooring

One of the best hotels for sleep is the Park Hyatt Hotel in New York. They offer Restorative Sleep Suites in addition to AI mattresses by Bryte. In Aspen, Colorado at The Little Nell, you’ll find sleep-focused amenities including a Bryte Balance mattress, comfortable and relaxing décor, and down comforters. When we looked for a one-night stay, it would cost you about $2,676 per night!

If you’re looking for an international trip check out the Preidlhof, located in northern Italy. According to Popsugar, it offers a program that includes a comprehensive sleep analysis, tracked by a small device worn by visitors. Along with a personalized sleep massage, sleep rituals, acupuncture, and sound and quartz classes.

According to Hilton’s 2025 trends report, 49% of travelers said one of the reasons they plan to travel is to rest and recharge. Additionally, two-thirds of respondents say they sleep better in hotels. With the rise of people becoming health conscious, this makes sense and is a unique option in the travel industry.

While it might feel wasteful at first to spend an entire trip sleeping, reframe it in your mind as prioritizing your body and wellness first. For more travel news, be sure to follow us at AllEars.net.
