Back in November 2024, Spirit Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and has made significant changes to its flight offerings ever since.

At the end of last year, the budget airline scaled back flights from Boston Logan Airport (BOS), dropping service to cities like Chicago, Charlotte, and Pittsburgh. Then, in January, the focus was shifted to adding flights to tropical destinations. All this was set in motion to add routes that would bring in profit to the airline while removing those that didn’t.

Now, Spirit is eliminating 12 more domestic routes, including flights between Atlanta and New York, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City, and New Orleans and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Other affected routes include flights from Burbank to San Jose and Oakland, as well as from Los Angeles to Reno, Salt Lake City, and San Jose. These cuts are already underway and will be completed by March of this year.

Flights from New York to both New Orleans and West Palm Beach, Florida, are also being removed.

The airline states that it regularly reviews its routes and makes changes based on market demand and company strategy. Some of these flights were offered seasonally and will not return, while others had low ticket sales.

“As part of this process, we adjusted our upcoming schedule to focus on our strongest performing routes in alignment with our current fleet size,” a Spirit spokesperson stated.

  1. Seems to protect shareholders, frontier buyout should be approved. Otherwise, common stock shareholders are wiped out

  2. For the life of me, I don’t understand why they’re cutting West Palm Beach flight, every time I am on this flight It is booked solid. This is an enormous inconvenience.
