We hope you don’t have an emotional attachment to one ride at Universal Orlando. Let’s just say its days are numbered…

The iconic Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster is on its way out. Recently, we reported that Universal Orlando filed a permit indicating that the Rip Ride Rockit coaster will be under construction soon. This news comes as Universal fans prepare for all kinds of major changes, including a brand-new Epic Universe theme park set to open on May 22nd, 2025. There are some BIG things happening at Universal, and we need to talk about them.
OK, first, we need to give you a little background. Recently, Universal submitted a permit with the South Florida Water Management District. The permit deals with the area where Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is located.

More specifically, the permit details a project that would “remove existing attraction and replace with proposed attraction” and includes new plans with structural modifications. We also noticed some new buildings in the proposed plans.

The most notable part of the permit is the language that indicates the removal of Rip Ride Rockit. Does this mean a new coaster will replace the ride? Universal hasn’t shared any additional details, but we can’t wait to learn more. In the meantime, we asked our readers on Facebook what they think about this news. Are people happy Rip Ride Rockit is closing? Will this ride be missed? Let’s find out!

Our readers have some BIG ideas when it comes to Rip Ride Rockit’s replacement, and we seemed to see mixed reactions to the news. Reader Jonathan, for example, joked he wants “Something that doesn’t require a neck brace when you’re done with it…”.

Both Shawn and Brian suggested a new attraction featuring classic Universal films. Reader Shawn, for example, wants “Maybe a new coaster with a retro IP theme,” and Brian suggested “Ghostbusters or Back to the Future attractions.”

Reader Finley is hoping for a “Modern launch coaster,” and we completely agree. The team here at AllEars is hoping for a smooth, fast coaster. Anyone else?

Not everyone is happy about this ride’s imminent closure, though! Reader Danielle said, “I loved selecting a soundtrack to listen to whilst riding! It was my favourite ride at universal by far I’m gutted it’s being demolished.” Teri agreed, saying, “Oh no, I loved that ride!!!!”

In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest theme park news, so stay tuned for more.
