Pixar Reveals Three Emotions That Did NOT Make The Cut for 'Inside Out 2'

Are you all up in your emotions? If you’ve seen Inside Out 2, which is now streaming on Disney+, you might be!

The new film introduced five new emotions to join Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust. The new emotions certainly created chaos for Riley as she hit puberty, and appeared as Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, Nostalgia, and Ennui. In the making of the movie, though, Pixar had even MORE emotions in mind.

Pixar recently posted a video to Instagram of Inside Out 2 director Kelsey Mann and producer Mark Nielsen discussing some of the other emotions that were considered for the movie, including three that didn’t make the cut. One of those emotions was Schadenfreude, a German word that describes pleasure or satisfaction that is felt when something bad happens to someone else. Here’s the concept art.

Another emotion the team considered was Jealousy, who they even considered as an identical twin to Envy, who did eventually make the final cut of emotions in Inside Out 2. Here’s what Jealousy would have looked like.

Another emotion the team did a lot of research on was Shame, but they ultimately decided that this emotion changed the tone of the movie too much. The concept art even looks pretty dark.

Ultimately, these three didn’t make the final cut, but it’s interesting to see what the team behind Inside Out 2 considered for Riley as she became a teenager dealing with very teenager emotions. Here’s the full video of Mann and Nielsen discussing it:

Now, we’re hoping to see Inside Out 3 as Riley matures and deals with even more emotions as she grows up. Who knows? Some of these cut from the second movie may be reconsidered for a sequel.
