CONFIRMED: 'Shrek 5' Is Coming in 2026 With the Original Cast!

Shrek is one of the most famous animated movie franchises of all time and for good reason! The characters are distinct (and hilarious), the songs are bops, and the storylines are engaging. That’s why we’re thrilled to share that DreamWorks has announced a Shrek 5 movie!

Yes, Quincy has been freaking out about the announcement as she is our resident Shrek enthusiast. (Photo inserted below as proof)

But she and every other fan are going to have to wait — Shrek 5 will be released on July 1st, 2026. That’s about two years away!

DreamWorks shared the exciting news on their social media platforms with a quick video — just a teaser for now!

The best part? It is confirmed that Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz will return to reprise their roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona respectively.

Back in April 2023, it was announced that another Shrek sequel was in the works. Along with sequels to Sing, Despicable Me, and Secret Life of Pets, Chris Meledandri (the founder and CEO of Illumination) hoped to strike a deal for Shrek 5 with the original cast. Now that hope is becoming a reality!
