NEWS: Heavy Rain Is Heading for Disney World This Week

We know two things about Central Florida’s weather in the middle of the year — it’s hot and it’s rainy!

Disney Springs on a sunny day

But for the past few weeks, this has not been the case! Even though we’re often in the “raining nearly every day” season by now, things have been oddly dry in the Orlando area recently. However, that’s coming to an end this week!

WESH 2 Orlando reports that significant rain is expected in Central Florida this week. Starting on Tuesday, June 11th, the chance of rain will be 80% and that number will stay above 60% all the way through Sunday.

The incoming storms bring a slight drop in temperature as well. While last week’s highs were in the upper 90s and we were seeing heat advisories, this week will have highs in the upper 80s instead. Low temps will be in the mid-70s.

Keep in mind that even though the temperatures are dropping, it’s still going to be pretty toasty! With all this rain, the humidity will be ramped up significantly, and anyone who lives or vacations in Central Florida knows that the humidity is the real kicker. If you’re traveling to the area, you’ll want to pack light, comfortable clothes and be prepared to sweat a bit.

Rainy day in Magic Kingdom

According to Click Orlando, the same area of tropical moisture that will be causing this rain is currently under watch from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). It’s an area of low pressure over the eastern Gulf of Mexico, and the NHC is watching it for tropical development. The system will travel across Florida, but as it hits the Atlantic, conditions may be favorable for it to develop. We’ll keep you in the loop if the possibility of a larger storm seems high.

For those heading on vacation in the Central Florida area this week, we’ve got some packing tips for you! Don’t forget your ponchos or rain jackets, and you might even want to consider a compact umbrella (like this one from Amazon!). If you’re planning on wearing sneakers or other shoes with socks, you should also check out these silicone waterproof shoe covers — nobody likes wet socks!

Hopefully this rain will be enough for Disney World to reopen the Sassagoula River Cruise boats that run as transportation between Disney Springs and the resorts in that area. They’ve been closed for a while because the water level has been too low, so our fingers are crossed for a little help from the weather!

  1. Flying down Thursday through Sunday. I am an out of state AP and blessed to get to come often. I’m fine with rain and know I’ll have a great time regardless. My only concern is flights. I have not forgotten the downpours of March 2022 that made a nightmare out of MCO and the flight schedules… 😬. Glad Florida will be getting some much needed rain, though!
