Planning a Disney World trip can be an overwhelming process even if everything goes according to plan.

And when it doesn’t, well, it’s easy to want to throw in the towel — but we’re here to tell you to stick it out! Staying up to date on the latest weather news can help you know how to plan your trip, and if you’re heading to Disney World today — we’ve got an update you might want to know about!
Pack your ponchos! Severe weather is moving into Disney World on April 3rd and we’re spilling everything you need to know. The Orlando Sentinel reports that strong to severe thunderstorms will occur in the afternoon with heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and possible tornado chances.

The storms are expected to be along the northern parts of the Interstate 4 corridor (where Disney World is located) from 12PM to 4PM, and just south of Orlando between 3PM and 7PM. If you’ve got plans to be in Disney World during this time, make sure you plan accordingly!
Temperatures will stay warm, in the mid-80s, and a wind advisory is also in effect for the area. It’s windy out there, today, so stay safe!

So what does that mean if you’re in Disney World? First, make sure you’ve packed some rain gear. If you didn’t, you can find ponchos in most Disney World shops — but if you have the option to purchase one outside of the parks, it’ll probably save you some cash.

Outdoor rides tend to close when the weather is bad in Disney World, meaning you won’t be able to ride some of your favorites, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Slinky Dog Dash, Test Track, Jungle Cruise, Expedition Everest, and many more.
The weather can also cause delays and even cancellations of parades and nighttime shows, including Fantasmic!, Happily Ever After, character cavalcades, and more.

But, don’t fret! There are plenty of indoor attractions and experiences at Disney World. Storms in Central Florida can be unpredictable, though you’re mostly just in for a bit of wind and rain. Keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app for the latest wait time and closure information!
