Several iconic Disney characters have become available in the public domain within the past couple of years.

When a character, or any intellectual property, enters the public domain anyone may use the character as they want to in their own content without needing permission from the original copyright holder — in this case Disney. We’ve seen how this can turn ugly fast in the cases of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse (as Steamboat Willie). And unfortunately, it likely will not stop since more Pooh horror films (yes, plural) will be coming soon — and with a BIG multiverse of horror-themed Disney characters.
If you’ve ever seen Avengers: Infinity War, you’re probably familiar with the idea of a multiverse and multiple storylines overlapping. In Avengers, characters like Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Black Panther, and more are all intertwined into one giant universe of characters and stories.
So think that but with Disney characters as evil horror characters, and you’ve got Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble.

According to Variety, the movie, set to hit theaters in 2025, will include classic Disney characters such as Pooh, Tinker Bell, Pinocchio, Bambi, Tigger, Piglet, Peter Pan, The Mad Hatter, and Sleeping Beauty. Yep, our childhoods in a horror movie themed after the Avengers but with bad guys.
Poohniverse is being created by the same studios that filmed Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, the low-budget film (under $50,000) that grossed $5.2 million in theaters.

By the way, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 is coming to theaters this month, March 26th through 28th. Oh, and of course, we can’t have a “poohniverse” of characters without their own stories, so you can expect Bambi: The Reckoning, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, Pinocchio Unstrung, and others to come to theaters near you soon!

The director of both Blood and Honey movies, Rhys Jake-Waterfield, stated, “We’ve got access to all these concepts, so it’s like a self-contained bubble, and we can do what we want with them,” regarding Poohniverse which he will also be directing. He added, “So yeah, it’s really exciting.”

Variety shared these details about the upcoming Poohniverse movie, “While the loose plot for Poohniverse will see the monsters team up to take on the survivors from the previous films, there won’t be harmony within the ranks of the murderous ensemble.” Scott Chambers, the leader of Jagged Edge Productions describes what occurs as “carnage within the group” and “epic sequences of monster vs. monster.”

Ok, so we admit, we’re a little curious about this new universe of horror Disney characters. This idea is one we may have never thought was coming, but it will soon be in theaters for you to endure if you choose.
