CEO Bob Iger Warns That One Thing Will Be “Highly Disruptive” and “Difficult to Manage” in Disney’s Future

The Walt Disney Company recently hosted its quarterly earnings call and shared some interesting information about the fate of the Disney brand.

Disney CEO Bob Iger commented on everything from theme park attendance to Disney+ subscriber data — and we learned a lot about the company’s plans going forward. Now, we also have some insight into a controversial topic: artificial intelligence.

When asked about artificial intelligence in relation to the Disney brand, Disney CEO Bob Iger started by joking, “I’m looking forward to a time where maybe A.I. does earnings calls for me.”

On a more serious note, Iger explained, “A.I. presents some pretty interesting opportunities for us.” He then said that Disney is already starting to use artificial intelligence to “create some efficiencies” that can “ultimately better serve consumers.”

Iger did not go into detail on how exactly Disney is starting to use A.I., though he did clarify that “AI is going to be highly disruptive, and it could be extremely difficult to manage, particularly from an IP management perspective.”

Despite his reservations, Iger said, “I’m bullish about the prospects.”
