In November 2022, The Walt Disney Company saw a major shakeup.

Bob Iger returned to Disney as CEO and Bob Chapek left the company. When the change occurred, we learned more about how much money Chapek was set to walk away with, and now we’ve got an update on the amount he was paid in 2022.
The fiscal year of 2022 was Chapek’s last full year with the company even though he had previously extended his contract with Disney. When he left the company in November 2022, Chapek was set to leave with close to $23 million, but a recent report shows just how much he got in the 2022 fiscal year.

Chapek received a pay package of $24.18 million for his work in 2022 and the value of his severance package is worth over $20 million.

As we mentioned above, Chapek extended his contract with the company by 3 years back in the summer of 2022, and this new report explains why. The Board extended his contract “based on Mr. Chapek’s work navigating the Company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic and growing the Company’s streaming business.”
It goes on to say that the Board spent a “significant time discussing the leadership of the Company in the months that followed” which is how they came to the conclusion that Chapek was no longer the best fit for the role. When Iger returned, we also learned that one of the reasons he left was because of the disappointing results at the Q4 earnings call.
