The Movies Disney Should NOT Remake

Over the past few years we have seen Disney resurrect some of our favorite animated films in the form of live-action remakes.

Some have become unique films in their own right, while others stuck to the original scripts.

Following movies like Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin, Disney is currently working on both a live-action Hercules film as well as another Snow White remake to add to the growing list. While some of these films have generated varying levels of box office success, the true test is whether Disney fans are still watching and enjoying these movies after their initial release! In the past we’ve seen fans commenting that certain movies didn’t need a remake, so we asked our readers: What’s a Disney movie that you’d NEVER want to see a remake of? Here are some of the top answers!

Several readers asked for no more remakes of Cinderella. There definitely are plenty of different takes on the classic story (almost as many as Snow White!) and viewers are ready for some new tales. We saw a few state that they’d rather see Disney keep Hunchback of Notre Dame as an animated film too! There has been some buzz regarding a movie, but at the moment the closest we have is the musical that was developed back in 2014.

Cinderella and her prince!

Many of our readers had the same idea and commented “Frozen.” The hit movie has remained popular amongst audiences, even as we approach its 10th anniversary. It seems like a prime target for Disney to turn into a live-action movie, but fans would rather see it remain in its original form. Some other movies our readers commented include Tarzan, Pollyanna, and A Goofy Movie. But what was the number one suggestion?

We love Anna and Elsa!

ALL OF THEM. Plenty of our readers would prefer that Disney halt the remakes altogether! We had tons of comments stating they wish Disney would let older movies be and just create new stories. We also saw a few comments suggesting which films they would like to see remade, including underrated movies like Atlantis and Treasure Planet.

Max as Powerline in Disney World!

Creating remakes is straddling a fine line: movie studios sometimes believe they can bank on the nostalgia factor to entice audiences, but at the same time viewers are going to compare the newer film to its predecessor and often the remake falls short. Despite the gamble, we don’t think Disney will stop rebooting older titles any time soon!
