Halloween is almost here and we’re ready to eat WAY too much candy.

Whether you’re celebrating Halloween in Disney World with Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or planning your own spooky Disney celebration at home, it’s about time to start purchasing candy for trick-or-treaters — but you might run into a problem.
According to CNBC, the cost of candy has increased by over 13.1% since last September, as reported by the Bureau of Labor. So when you go to buy candy for Halloween this year, you could be spending a lot more than you expected to.

The average family typically spends about $30 on Halloween candy, but this year you can expect to spend about $35. The reason behind the climbing cost of candy — the rate of which has nearly doubled since June — is mostly attributed to higher sugar prices, which have been affected by energy costs, supply chain problems, and extreme weather.

If you’re on a tight budget but want to offer something to trick-or-treaters, you might want to consider doing some math. This bag of 250 candy pieces is $21.98 total, or $.88 per candy. By contrast, you can get a 365-piece bag for $26.98, or $.74 per candy. So for just $5 more (and it currently also has a $1 coupon!), you get a bigger bang for your buck.

And you don’t HAVE to get candy, either! Lots of families choose to give away non-edible items, such as glow sticks, rings, or erasers. This pack of 100 Glow Sticks is $9.99 on Amazon, on sale from $19.99. If you end up with leftover items, save them for future goody bags!
