Ever wondered why Andy bought a Buzz Lightyear toy when he already had Woody?

Hey Buzz!

That’s exactly the question that director Angus MacLane is exploring in Disney’s upcoming movie Lightyear. This film tells the story of Buzz Lightyear — but not as we know him now. Instead, it’s all about the hero who inspired the toy from one of the most classic Pixar films around. And now there’s a FULL TRAILER for this movie!

Director MacLane said, “In Toy Story, there seemed to be this incredible backstory to [Buzz Lightyear] being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my ‘Lightyear’ pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.”

In Lightyear, we’ll follow the story of the space ranger in a “sci-fi action-adventure” that also features Buzz’s arch-nemesis Zurg.

Chris Evans is voicing Buzz Lightyear, and other members of the cast include Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi as “a group of ambitious recruits.” There’s also an adorable cat-robot friend named Sox, who will be voiced by Peter Sohn.

Other voices you’ll hear in this movie include Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

The award-winning composer Michael Giacchino will score Lightyear. Giacchino is known for his work on Spider-Man: No Way Home, Up, and Coco, among other Pixar films.

Lightyear will be released on June 17th, 2022. We cannot WAIT to see this intergalactic adventure in full, but until that day, we’ll just have to cope by watching this full trailer a million times:
