The holidays are a busy time for traveling, and this year COVID-19 has had a big impact on some of the busiest air travel days of the year.

Over 3,000 flights were canceled before Christmas and thousands more have been canceled since, and it doesn’t look like things are getting any easier for the air travel industry.

According to WESH2, JetBlue Airways has now canceled approximately 1,280 additional flights from December 30th through January 13th due to COVID-19 cases being reported among crew members. These cancellations join over 1,000 flights that have already been canceled by the airline since December 28th.

JetBlue expects to cancel more flights in the coming days as COVID-19 cases continue to climb in New York, where the airline crews are primarily located.

They are not alone, however, as many other airlines have been canceling hundreds of flights daily since before the Christmas holiday due to COVID-19 infections and bad weather.

WESH2 also reports that the rise in COVID-19 cases isn’t just impacting the airlines in the United States. European airlines have also been canceling flights and the German airline Lufthansa said that 10% of their winter flights will be canceled after a large drop in winter bookings.
