There are lots of reasons that a ride might close in Disneyland, including technical difficulties, maintenance, or a re-design.
There are already a few fan-favorite attractions down right now in Disneyland (like “it’s a small world,” which closed due to flooding), and now we know that two BIG rides will be joining the list early next year.
Disneyland hasn’t announced yet how long these rides will be closed and the calendar only goes to January 11th, 2022 right now. So, we only know that the rides will both be closed for at least two days (though the closure will likely be longer).
Splash Mountain is scheduled to get a major overhaul with a new Princess and the Frog theme, so this could be the start of the new theme over in Disneyland, but nothing has been confirmed by Disney.
Based on an announcement by Disney earlier this year, it sounded like the re-theme would be further into the future, possibly even years from now. But who knows? Maybe Disneyland is getting a head start in just a couple of months.
UPDATE: According to Scott Gustin on Twitter (@ScottGustin), the closure will be for routine maintenance and does not relate to the attraction’s upcoming re-theme.
As a reminder, the re-theme will include new characters, music from the original movie, and an “ultimate Mardi Gras party” as the finale. Guests will follow Tiana and her friends on adventures that take place after the end of the Princess and the Frog story.
It’s also possible that both of the attractions (Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain) are simply getting some routine maintenance for a few days in Disneyland. We’ll keep an eye out for more information about the closures and let you know as soon as possible!
And, in the meantime, keep following AllEars for more updates on all things Disney!
